The New iPhone sucks

Sooooo... after all the anticipation and amidst all the controversy, Apple finally released their new iPhone.

You know what? I'm disappointed. Simply put...

It sucks.

I'll be blogging about the top 10 reasons it sucks soon enough. Right now, however, I'm fed up.

Hmm, I don't know where I found that stat about the browsers. I'm pretty sure I'm right though. Either way, you can't argue that Firefox is the browser of the future.

Don't you just love how the only objections you are getting are from people who can only insult rather than qualify their defense?

My biggest gripe is price, which approaches or exceeds that of smartphones typically purchased by businessmen or techies, despite the fact that the iPhone is arguably not a smartphone. If this product were intended for the average person, then I don't see how this product can succeed; nobody in their right minds will spend $600 for a phone if all they are going to do is play MP3s, text-chat, and make calls on it. The iPhone may have an elegant interface, but people will likely compromise with less elegant but functional interface and save several hundreds of dollars in the process. The SLVR would be a more attractive choice in this case.

The other big gripe: non-replaceable battery. To those that justify this by citing the iPod, you must be reminded that this isn't just an MP3 player (although there have been many iPod users who were upset about the battery issue, particularly those who have had iPods not last for a year before the battery goes); it's a phone! What if you have to make a call when the battery dies? The option would be to hook it up to power somehow (not always available depending on the circumstances) or keep a spare battery on hand. If you can't change the battery, then obviously you can't keep spares.

And, for the price, you ought to be able to change a worn battery to preserve your investment, not spend much more money to get the phone serviced by Apple or shell out more money on a replacement. This looks more like a money trap (or something a designer thought of in terms of style without considering practicality) if you can't change a worn battery. At least I can replace the battery on my RAZR and it's still a sleek, good-looking phone.

Just one question:
How much do they pay you at Apple to write these kind of stories?

These texts are those that makes pople think all anti-apple folks are stupid as hell.

Como se les abre el culo a la gente con las mierdas de apple. I never had anything from apple but i have 6 friends with ipods and 4 of then not working already, 5 mac computers and with 2 of them, the same..

What a lame article... I'm just going to point out one of the many erroneous facts.

Whatever you may think of Cingular, how can you say that no one uses GSM? Are you braindead? They are the largest carrier in the country, meaning the majority of the US uses GSM.

If you're going to do a hit piece at least do your research.

Like a lot of myopic anti-apple Windows nerds, you manage to spectacularly miss the whole point, concept and target market of an Apple designed device - in this case the iPhone.

On top of which, a lot of your post is either just wrong or lies - Safari stats are completely wrong - you haven't had five million PCs to compare against one bad apple (as someone who works in an IT enterprise, I know to claim Macs are unreliable is just being maliciously dishonest) and the fact that you are a bit stupid when it comes to using iTunes is more a slight on yourself than iTunes. Your errors re GSM have already been pointed out. About the only thing you got right is that it costs a lot but then that's a personal choice for people to make for themselves - if you want a consumer orientated device with the design style, build quality and reliability that Apple has now been offering for years, you may want to buy one. Or you may not. To say it "sucks" is just to sound like a whimpering little pathetic juvenile.

Alot of the information you provide is wrong. Specifically, for one, what you say about GSM.

From your article:
Unfortunately for he and Apple, no one in the US will buy it because it only works on GSM networks; specifically, Cingular's network. Can you hear me now? NO, I didn't think so - because NO ONE uses Cingular or GSM over here. We can't even decide on a GSM frequency in this country, let alone have one all the carriers use. You know why? Because NO ONE CARES ABOUT GSM.

No one cares about GSM? Well, let's see. Cingular Wireless, as of 3Q 2006, had 58.6 million subscribers (more than any other wireless provider). T-Mobile has another 20 million + subscribers. This constitutes a pretty significant portion of the market share (about half I would imagine).

Care to explain that statement?

BTW, there are not many places that operate on one single frequency. There are distinct advantages to operating at lower and higher frequencies. Just about all the carriers in the U.S. do this. And there is no such thing as a "GSM frequency". The same radio frequency is used regardless of whether the signal is a GSM signal, CDMA signal or analog signal. The only difference between those technologies is how they distribute space on the given frequency. GSM providers in the U.S. and Canada operate at the 850 & 1900 mHz frequency, just as most of the CDMA carriers do.And if you go abroad, you will notice most carriers there operate on a couple different frequencies as well; usually 900 & 1800 mHz.

You lost me at argument one... you're numbers on browser usage are way off... try flipping them around 80% IE and 20% FF.

This article is just a cheap attempt to get an audience... and you know what? it worked!

Too bad he is getting an audience for showing what a complete and total dumbass he is when it comes to anything tech.

In case you are still in total denial about most of your information being completely wrong, here are a few links that show the ACTUAL browser usage statistic as opposed to your unjustified claims about Firefox holding a majority of the market share.

http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=0

http://www.e-janco.com/browser.htm

Even a simple Wiki search shows you as wrong:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers

So, have that evidence that shows otherwise? Nope? Didn't think so because it doesn't exist.

Thanks.

Bye.
